Claim at a glance

Photo checklist — before any cleanup

• Roof — each slope from the ground, then from a ladder at the eave
• Each elevation of siding (front, back, left, right), wide and close
• Windows, screens, trim, garage door
• Gutters, downspouts, fascia, soffit
• AC unit fins, BBQ, deck, fence, shed
• Vehicles (each panel and the glass)
• Hailstones beside a coin or tape measure
• Attic and ceilings for any water staining
• Pre-storm photos of the house (listing photos, Street View, old phone photos)

First 72 hours

• Photograph everything before cleanup (list above)
• Stop further damage — tarp, board-up; keep every receipt
• Notify insurer in writing (email counts). Record claim number and adjuster name
• Ask for the proof-of-loss forms in writing (insurer has 60 days)
• Book a roof inspection with test-square counts
• Keep a few damaged shingles / a siding piece in the garage until released
• Check your declarations page: hail deductible, bylaw limit, roof payment schedule

Adjuster visit

• Contractor on site to walk the roof with the adjuster
• Test-square counts per slope, close-ups of mat fracture
• Siding: colour name / manufacturer / discontinued letter if applicable
• Ask the adjuster for the written scope (line items) before leaving
• Confirm ACV amount, holdback amount, and what releases the holdback
• Ask whether bylaw coverage is being applied and to which items
