Red Deer

A 100,000-Person City With Six Decades Of Housing Stock

Red Deer is a city of 100,844 people, roughly 150 km and 90 minutes north of Calgary on the QE II. Unlike the fast-grown satellite towns, its housing spans the 1950s to the present, which means the roofing conversation changes street by street rather than subdivision by subdivision.

In the older central and near-north areas — Parkvale, Waskasoo, Michener Hill, Riverside Meadows, Normandeau, Highland Green and Fairview — we are working on houses that predate any serious insulation or ventilation standard. These roofs are often on their second or third covering, sheathing quality varies, soffits are narrow, and attic insulation is frequently at 1960s depths. Ice damming and attic condensation are the recurring problems, and no shingle solves either.

In the 1980s to 2000s belts — Anders Park, Deer Park, Sunnybrook, Oriole Park, Eastview, Lancaster, Kentwood, Clearview and Johnstone — the story is standard asphalt roofs at their second replacement cycle. Some are 15 years old and fine, some are 25 and finished, and the honest answer is usually visible only from up close. Newer growth in Timberlands, Laredo, Ironstone, Clearview Ridge and Garden Heights has younger roofs where hail and workmanship inspections are the useful service, not replacement.

Central Alberta hail exposure

Red Deer sits in Alberta's hail corridor. We photograph and mark every impact and handle the claim paperwork for your adjuster.

Older core, older attics

On pre-1970 housing the roof is often not the problem. We inspect the attic and quote venting and insulation alongside the roof.

Commercial low-slope

SBS, TPO and EPDM assessments, repairs and phased replacements on industrial park and retail buildings.

$500 price-beat guarantee

Comparable written quote, same scope and materials — we beat it by $500. Free inspection either way.

How we work in Red Deer

We Schedule Red Deer Properly, Not Opportunistically

Red Deer is a 90 minute drive from our Calgary shop, and we are honest about what that means: we do not pretend to be around the corner. We batch Red Deer inspections and jobs so crews and materials arrive together and the work runs continuously from start to finish rather than in stop-start visits.

For commercial clients that is an advantage, not a compromise. A phased or scheduled project with a firm mobilisation date and a continuous run beats a local contractor squeezing your roof between three other jobs. We put the schedule in writing.

1

Free inspection

Roof, flashings, vents, eaves and attic on residential; membrane, drains, curbs and parapets plus a core sample where needed on commercial.

2

Written scope and options

Repair, partial or full replacement, priced with materials listed.

3

Firm schedule

A mobilisation date, a crew, and a continuous run to completion.

4

Install and close out

Owner involvement, daily site photos on commercial, magnet sweep on residential, final walkaround and warranty paperwork.

What Central Alberta Weather Does To Red Deer Roofs

Red Deer sits north of the strongest chinook belt, so it holds cold longer than Calgary and accumulates snow for longer stretches without a mid-winter melt. That changes the failure pattern: less rapid freeze-thaw cycling, but heavier and more sustained snow load and longer periods with ice sitting at the eaves. On the older core housing, that sustained ice against inadequate eave protection is what rots fascia and soaks the top of the wall.

Hail is still very much a factor. Central Alberta lies in the same hail corridor that runs up the province, and Red Deer takes damaging storms regularly. Because those events are smaller and less publicised than Calgary's billion-dollar storms, damage frequently goes uninspected for years, and by the time a leak appears the reporting window may be a problem. If a storm has crossed your neighbourhood, get the roof looked at while the evidence is fresh — our inspection is free and we will document the damage for your adjuster.

All Alberta work, Red Deer included, falls under the National Building Code – 2023 Alberta Edition, in force since May 1, 2024. Permit requirements are set locally, and re-covering a roof is treated differently than altering a roof structure or deck. We confirm what applies to your specific property and building type before the job starts rather than partway through it.
